If you want to use a 2.1 setup, you need to go to the 5.1 setup, uncheck the things you don't have and go to your inputs. My sound card is an integrated Realtek HD 5.1. Amazingly though, sometimes after putting the system in hibernate mode and coming back, the audio worked. Honestly, you did a fine job of troubleshooting the problem and fixing it: NICE WORK ! Also there have been many reports of defective chipsets on these boards. You have to have a splitter from the front channel output.
The speaker configuration in real is set to 5.1 speaker. Ask a question Member requests are more likely to be responded to. i'm guessing you used the yellow rca jack and that caused all of the muffling.
